A UNIQUE REGION TO DISCOVER…

The wonders of the Veluwe

Nature in the national parks and culture in the towns and cities

Explore Gelderland, the largest province in the Netherlands with its four regions including Veluwe, which is home to one of the largest protected natural areas in the country with its national parks promising great walks and bike rides.

These two nature reserves boast very diverse ecosystems, untouched natural beauty and splendid scenery, especially at the end of summer when the heather flowers. The Veluwe is dotted with ponds and lakes as well as towns and cities with plenty of culture such as Arnhem, Ede and Apeldoorn – there’s loads to see and do! Here are the places you won’t want to miss.

Kootwijkerzand

4 miles away

The 700-hectare nature reserve of Kootwijkerzand, the largest shifting sand area in western Europe, is a beautiful natural area great for cycling or walking through forests and sand dunes. Climb to the top of the 13.5m lookout tower to enjoy a panoramic view across the whole of the Veluwe!

De Hoge Veluwe National Park

4 miles away

De Hoge Veluwe National Park is one of the oldest, most beautiful and largest national parks in the Netherlands with its 5450 hectares of forest, heathlands and sand drifts. The Otterlo entrance is only a 10-minute drive away from the campsite. We recommend: spotting wild animals on a safari with one of the national park’s forest guides.

Kröller-Müller Museum

6 miles away

Nestled in De Hoge Veluwe National Park, this contemporary art museum houses an impressive collection of artworks by artists such as Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso and Piet Mondrian, including the world’s largest private collection of pieces by famous Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh. Don’t miss: the 25-hectare garden and its sculptures.

Arnhem

16 miles away

The capital of the Gelderland province is well worth a visit! With its beautiful historic centre and the arty Modekwartier district, it is known as ‘the City of Fashion.’ It’s great strolling around browsing its little vintage shops and designers’ studios. It has various visitor attractions including the Open Air Museum and the Water Museum.

Apeldoorn

17 miles away

Aperldoorn, the largest city in the Veluwe, has a charming city centre with a number of cafés, restaurants and arts and culture venues. One of the main things the city is known for is Het Loo Palace, which was once a residence of the Dutch royal family. Now, you can tour its beautiful gardens, stables and collection of unique historical objects.

Veluwezoom National Park

22 miles away

Veluwezoom, the oldest national park in the Netherlands, is home to an abundance of plants and wildlife. You can explore the park on a walk, bike ride or horse ride and might even be lucky enough to come across stags or wild boars. The 90m-high Posbank hill offers a breathtaking view of the park.
